This shows the famous barque surging along in a smother of foam, driven by the south-westerly wind, with her weather studding sails fully set. When on show at the Royal Society of Marine Artists annual exhibition an ‘expert’ asked why she was flying her house-flag. Quickly I said she was identifying herself to the passing fishing schooner as she raced up-Channel! A composition entirely from my imagination. Note the solitary Gannet!
