A French 74 gun ship in the storm after Trafalgar

A French 74 gun ship in the storm after Trafalgar

Description

In the last line of Vice Admiral Lord Nelson’s prayer, written before the battle, he wrote, “…. and may humanity after victory be the predominant feature in the British Fleet.”  It is well documented that during the storm, ships’ boat crews from British ships went to the rescue of some of the French and Spanish sailors; before their ships either sank or were driven ashore.  This was the inspiration to the artist behind this painting.
